The following prayer-poem is from Walter Brueggemann’s fantastic collection Prayers for a Privileged People. Brueggemann is one of my favorite Scripture scholars, and his prose is itself more poetic than most academic writing. I love this particular volume because it (1) provides some beautiful prayers for various occasions throughout the year, and (2) shows how deeply Brueggemann feels and strives to live the stuff he studies. I read this poem last year on Super Bowl Sunday, and it helped bring some measure of perspective to the day. Hope you enjoy it.
